Our annual Mission Conference is a time to remember that all missionary work is done in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of His Holy Spirit . The men and women called to a specific ministry in the UK or overseas are the instruments that the Lord graciously uses, but the work, the achievements and the glory are all His. Throughout the day we were also reminded that, as Christians, we are all called to missionary work in our own neighbourhood as we seek to share the glorious gospel of salvation by faith in Jesus Christ.
This year the Conference started on Friday 12th September in the evening with a meeting for the ladies to hear Beth Grove speaking about the Christian response to Islam in Britain. She spoke clearly and competently about the need to understand Muslims and their beliefs and to establish a friendship with them as individuals.
The main event was held on Saturday 13th September at the Barnabas Centre and provided an opportunity not only to hear about the work of the missionaries represented at the Conference, but also to share fellowship with believers from other churches.
We started with a time of worship to praise our God and Saviour with a Biblical exposition by Andy Mayo.
The missionaries gave their individual accounts of the work the Lord is doing whether with adults, young people or children. They spoke of the redeeming power of Christ being seen in the lives of , alcoholics and drug users; the positive impact of aid provided for those whose homes and livelihood are devastated by natural disasters; but also of the opposition some believers face because of their faith. The care and love they exhibited is what allows them to work in often difficult and trying situations, but it is the love that God has given to them that allows them to reach out to share it with others.
To add to the talks there were displays by a range of Christian outreach and support organisations and a selection of good Christian books available.
Displays by Emmaus, the Christian Police Association and Medical Missionary News were placed in the entrance area and were well visited during the breaks.

To complement the spiritual food, a simple but well presented, and well received, lunch was provided by the expert catering team working, as usual, like a well oiled machine.
The morning and afternoon tea breaks created another opportunity to share in fellowship whilst partaking of more refreshments.
