Mission Conference 2007

Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September

The Conference had two parts, involved four families and spanned five countries, but it had one theme. This theme is the ongoing and exciting work of being involved in building the church by the grace of God, in His way and in His time.

The Conference

The first part, Woman 2 Woman, on Friday evening gave the ladies an opportunity to talk to women involved in mission work. It was an insight into the joys and difficulties of serving the Lord in countries and cultures which are quite different to the UK.

The second part was the main Conference on Saturday with presentations by the four missionaries about their work, supplemented by a DVD presentation, to cover five different countries.

Barry Haigh started the morning with a thought-provoking exposition of John 12 v1-8.

Ron Penny followed with 'India today and tomorrow'. A report on the work that he and his wife, Lilo, have been involved with for many years. The teaching, preaching and practical work of running a school for girls.

Noel McMeekin gave a report on 'God at work in Ireland' about how he and his wife, Lisa, administer the work of Postal Bible School. Not all the work is done by post as it also involves visiting schools to share the gospel of grace with the children as well as organising prize giving sessions for those who have completed courses.

Paul Williams took us on a rapid tour across Romania. In the process he told us about two main aspects. One was the work that he and his wife Sue are involved in. The other was the changes in political, social and spiritual life in this country, which has seen dramatic changes during it's transition from dictatorship to democracy.

Barry Haigh told us how he and Rachael had built up a work in Zambia and successfully handed it over the Zambia Christians to administer. Even encounters with snakes, a scorpion sting and a brush with a large hairy caterpillar that causes severe irritation did not distract them from their work. It is encouraging that the work continues to grow in numbers and in grace as the local leaders look to the Lord to guide and direct them.

The afternoon closed with a DVD presentation about Sudan, 'a land of contrasts'. It is a land where the people have suffered trials and tribulations during a prolonged series of conflicts and wars as different groups battle for control.

The Kidzone kept the children occupied with their own activities. This included a special presentation by Sue Williams about Romania so they were also able to share in the missionary work.

In between these presentations was an opportunity to share fellowship together over an excellent 'brown bag' lunch and refreshment breaks.

During the breaks time was also allocated to displays by a range of Christian organisations and support groups. These included Emmaus Bible School, Christians at Work, Christian Police Association, Hand-in-Hand, Ministry to Muslims and Brass Tacks.
